Fine Afghan Rug
These rugs are woven by the Hazara Tribes of Afghanistan. Designs and patterns for these fine, colourful pieces are taken from old Caucasian rugs, typically from areas south, east and north of the Caucasus mountains on the border of southern Russia and Northern Georgia.
Wools used are local, hard wearing and hand spun. Dyes are natural and typically made from cochineal, indigo and other plants, flowers and barks giving rise to bright, vibrant colours. Once dyed and knotted on to a strong cotton base the rugs are then washed, clipped and finished by hand.
Kazak rugs feature bold geometric designs, bright cheerful colours and are very hardwearing and therefore suitable for use throughout the home. With their fine closely woven pile and jewel like colours they will bring pleasure for many years to come.
This fine rug measures 9 feet 8 inches long by 6 feet 6 inches wide. ( 2.94 x 1.99 metres ).
