These runners are woven by Turkmen and Hazara tribes in the central and northern provinces of Afghanistan. The designs and patterns are taken from saddle bags that were used in these areas, having many different warm colours and straight strips too.

The wool is hand spun and dyed using only natural dyes such as cochineal and indigo, which adds to their dramatic and vibrant appearance.
